Okay, here’s how you get started…
First, send an email to the Chorale expressing your interest and indicating what part you sing. Someone from the Chorale will contact you to set up an audition.
“OMG! An audition – I’m not sure I can handle that!” Relax. The audition is a simple process administered by one of our Artistic Directors. They are looking for a few simple skills:
- Range testing
- Simple sight-reading
- Singing an a capella piece of your choosing
See, no theory exam. No need to identify key signatures or explain the difference between adagio and presto. We’ll cover those things during the rehearsals.
So, now you’ve successfully made it through your audition, what’s next? If you’re joining us for the Fall semester, you can make plans to attend our annual kickoff meeting in late August. It’s not a requirement, but it’s a fun event with lots of food, good fellowship and a short business meeting to discuss the plans for the year. If you’re joining at the beginning of the calendar year, simply come to the first rehearsal and plan to meet the whole gang that night. We usually do something fun the first night to “break the ice” and get to know the new members.
Now that you’re in, let the fun begin. We rehearse for 10 weeks then perform a concert series over the course of a weekend to share our hard work with the community. Our performances are typically held in churches whose gracious hosts allow us to use their facilities.
There’s a lot more to know about the group once you join, but the most important thing you should know is that it’s a lot of fun! We hope you’ll consider joining us.
